Marsaxlokk FC announced their first signing in the off-season when they agreed a deal to bring in Argentine defender Lucas Lopez.
The 30-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Premier League club and is understood to have put pen to paper on a one-year contract.
“We are happy to announce that 30-year-old Argentinian defender, Lucas joins Marsaxlokk F.C.,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“Join us in giving Lucas a warm welcome as he embarks on this exciting journey with us!”
Marsaxlokk are working hard to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to European footbal this summer.
Last season, the Southerners finished fourth in the Premier League and they qualified to the UEFA Conference League qualifiers after Sliema Wanderers, who had already booked their place in Europe, won the FA Trophy.
Lopez becomes the first signing for coach Winston Muscat.
The 30-year-old spent all his career in Argentina. He came through the youth ranks of Platense and then was on the books of Sportivo AC, Deportivo Maipu and Douglas Haig.
Last season, he made seven appearances at Douglas Haig, scoring one goal.
