Melita FC have agreed a deal to sign Colombian defender Aldair Simanca.
The 25-year-old centre back has agreed personal terms with the newly-promoted club and put pen to paper on a one-year contract.
Melita FC have been working hard during the past few weeks to try and build a competitive squad ahead of their return to the Maltese top-flight next season.
Strengthening the defence was one of the targets for coach Clive Mizzi and Melita moved quickly to bring in Aldair.
The right-footed defender has spent most of his career in the Americas where he plied his trade in Colombia, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
Aldair came through the youth ranks in La Equidad before moving to Real Cartagena.
In 2021, he moved to the Dominican Republic where he joined top-flight side Atletico Pantoja and a few months later headed to Honduran top side Platense FC.
Since 2023, he returned to Colombia where he donned the colours of UCV FC, Patriotas and Tigres FC.
Last January, he joined Nicaraguan club Matagalpa where he made 12 appearances and scored one goal.
Aldair becomes Melita’s third signing in the off-season after the club has already signed David Xuereb from Marsa and Kurt Bondin, who was on the books of Żebbuġ Rangers.
