Ghana international player Rashaka Katadat, who is currently on the books of Paola Volleyball Club, is close to signing for Volley Metauria Club which is located in the city of Gioia Tauro in the south of Italy.
This transfer was possible after several weeks of discussion between Paola Volleyball Club president, Dr Kenneth Vella, and the Italian third division team president, Pierangelo Cannata’. Earlier this week, Katadat travelled to Italy.
Raskaha Katadat is 24 years old and was a key player of the Ghana national team before joining Paola Volleyball Club earlier on this year.
Katadat plays as a hitter and was the captain of the Armed Forces team in Ghana. She has been playing with the national team since 2018. She was voted the best volleyball player of Ghana in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
Katadat also represented her country in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.
“I feel so happy to have the opportunity to continue my professional career in Italy. Thanks to the ongoing work of Paola Volleyball Club, my dream is becoming a reality. Thanks also to the Italian club, led by Mr Cannata’, for providing me with this opportunity,” said Katadat.
Dr Vella stressed that this transfer confirms the Paola club’s politics and strategy which incorporates agreements and collaboration with European clubs, as well as clubs from other continents, the signing of players who play at international level, and the possibility of the Paola Club players and technical staff to participate in training camps in Malta and abroad.
He attested that Paola Volleyball Club currently has a collaborative agreement with the Italian Serie A club of Akademia Sant’Anna. The club will be announcing initiatives with this club in the coming weeks especially in relation to its nursery.
Dr Vella took the opportunity to thank the committee members, notably Alexia Brincau, Carmen Gauci, Tiziana Bonnici and Claire Falzon, as well as the club coaches, head coach Michael Magro, Antonio Borg, Alesio Muscat, Bogdan Lackovic, Stefania Dimech and Mohammed Khaled.
Special thanks go to former technical staff member Mark Hili, whose contribution towards the club is very much appreciated.
The committee also congratulated Hili who recently has been accepted to attend to an intensive international course on match preparation, match control and match analysis.
“The work carried out by the club is a living proof of the club’s commitment to continue strengthening the nursery and this would only be possible with the support of Assoċjazzjoni Sportiva Hibernians, with whom Paola Volleyball Club is affiliated, and the club sponsors, Executive Security Services, Izibet, Maypole Bakery, Yes2Health Fitness Club, De Paola Pharmacy and HandsOn Systems,” concluded Dr Kenneth Vella.
