The United Padel Club is currently hosting the Evian Open at Padel Malta in Pembroke.
The tournament, which is sanctioned by the Malta Tennis Federation, which is the official body of padel in Malta, got under way last weekend when the opening stages of the tournament were held as participants were in action in the group stages.
The tournament has attracted the participation of 16 male teams and eight female teams and features some of Malta’s best players in the sport who will be vying for ranking points.
Now the Open is set to enter a decisive phase this weekend when the tournament finals will be played in Pembroke.
All the favourite pairings have managed to negotiate their way into the knock-out stages of the tournament.
Lucas Llano and Matthew Asciak, the winners of the last MTF-sanctioned tournament held in Marsa, are bidding to win more silverware but will be wary of threat posed by coaching duo Borja Jimenez Barra and Ignacio Molina Bautista who looked very strong in the group stages.
Organisers are hopeful of attracting a good crowd this weekend to watch the knock out stages of the tournament.
