The Evian Padel Open ended successfully at the Padel Malta in Pembroke last weekend.
The tournament’s quarter-finals, semi-final and final matches from both the men’s and women’s categories were held in front of a sizeable crowd that was largely entertained with the level of play produced by the players.
In the men’s tournament, the final was contested by the Spanish/Maltese duo of Antonaya and Zammit Tabona against Lucas Llanos and Matthew Asciak.
Antonaya and Zammit Tabona had reached the final after prevailing in a nail-biting clash against Spanish duo Jimenez Barra and Molina.
In the final, Antonaya and Zammit Tabona took the opening set but Asciak and Llanos took the second after a tie-break before annulling a match point in the third set and prevailing after another tie-break.
Tournament organised by United Padel Club and hosted at Padel Malta in Pembrok
In the women’s tournament, the newly-formed couple of Martinez and Garbisu proved too strong for former tennis champions Arrigo and Cassar Torregiani in the semi-finals to set up a final showdown with Katavic and Kubickova.
Katavic and Kubickova proved to be a formidable duo in the final showdown as the duo, who had not lost a single game up until the final, went on to take the title with an impressive 6-2 6-3 victory.
At the end of the tournament, trophies were presented to all winners and finalists in the presence of Simon Fiorini Lowell, vice president of the Malta Tennis Federation.
