The 2024 season resumed on Sunday with the 32nd meeting of the year consisting of eight races all for trotters. Four of these races were heats from the EquestriMalta President’s Cup for class Premier trotters on a short distance of 2140m. From these heats, 24 trotters made it to the semi-final stage
In the first Premier heat, Disco D’Occagnes (Redent Magro) upped its pace 300 metres from the finishing line and past the finishing post first easily by three lengths from Global Undecided (Rodney Gatt). For Magro’s trotter this was its second win in Malta.
Diablo D’Herfraie (Rodney Gatt) took the lead midway through the final straight of the second heat and sealed its first win of the year from French newcomer Douglas Du Pont (Ludvic Ghigo).
The third class Premier heat was characterised by a keen tussle between three trotters in the final straight. It was Bellmondo (Andrew Farrugia) which gained its first win in Malta.
Velvet Gio (Rodney Gatt) registered its third win of the season after leading all the way during the 2140m distance of the fourth and last class Premier heat. For Gatt this was his third win of the day.
