The Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) announced the national squad for the highly-anticipated Men’s Conference match against Cyprus, today at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
This home fixture promises an exciting contest as Malta’s finest rugby talent takes the field, backed by strong leadership and team spirit.
Malta are in Pool D and will also face Andorra and Israel.
Head coach Keith Hopkins has assembled a dynamic squad, combining experienced players with emerging talents.
Luke Grima will make his international debut, while Harry Collins reaches an impressive milestone, earning his 50th cap for Malta. In addition to these key highlights, Joe Greaves will captain the team for the first time.
Reflecting on the team’s preparation and his new role as captain, Greaves expressed confidence and determination
“Coming off this training camp, we gelled really well,” Greaves said.
“We just need to bring that same energy with more discipline. If we keep the ball, it will be difficult to stop us.”
Greaves also spoke about his approach to leadership, inspired by the captains before him and his own experience:
“I look to previous captains and my own experience as a captain, drawing from both to guide me in the future and utilise that knowledge,” he said.
Speaking about his team selection, head coach Keith Hopkins said: “Selection has been extremely difficult for this match, with all our players really putting in a significant effort in the build-up. We have selected a strong team, and one we believe will put in an honest performance against Cyprus.
“I’m sure it will be a great occasion and a fantastic test match on Saturday. With a balanced mix of seasoned veterans and fresh faces, the team is ready to rise to the occasion and secure a victory over Cyprus.
Malta’s next fixtures is away to Andorra on November 30.
