The second round of the Assikura Women’s League kicks off with a key clash between leaders Hibernians and third-placed Swieqi United.
Hibernians are top the table with 19 points, still unbeaten with both the best defensive (2 goals conceded) and offensive (32 goals scored) in the league.
Star forward Joelma, who joined the Paolites during the summer transfer window, leads the charge with nine goals so far.
Swieqi, sitting third on 15 points, have bounced back from earlier losses to Hibernians and Birkirkara.
In their last league outing, Dorianne Theuma’s team secured a crucial 1-0 win over Mġarr United.
Jade Flask, their top scorer, has netted five goals in the first round.
In their previous encounter, Hibernians defeated Swieqi 2-0 with goals from Martina Borg and Natalee Geren.
Meanwhile, second-placed Birkirkara (16 points) begin their second-round campaign against San Ġwann.
The defending champions have scored 27 goals and shipped just four goals in the opening round.
Mġarr United, now seven points behind leaders Hibernians, aim to get back on track against Mtarfa after last weekend’s loss to Swieqi.
Elsewhere, Valletta and Lija Athletic—both on six points—will face off in another intriguing matchup.
