The 36th and the 37th meeting of the season were held during the weekend at the Marsa Racetrack. These programmes included the finals of the P and M Farrugia Condition Races for class Copper and Bronze trotters, the semi-finals from the Mapfre Championship for class Silver trotters and the semifinals from the Johnnie Walker Cup championship for class Gold trotters. All these races were held on a short distance of 2140m.
In the Condition Race final for class Copper trotters there was a keen duel in the final straight between Jasmin De Coulamer (Clifton Farrugia) and Gima Tege (Clint Vassallo).
It was the former which took its first win in Malta with Baud Breton (Noel Baldacchino) and Fort De France (Joe Farrugia) ending respectively in third and fourth place.
In the class Bronze final it was Fast And Good (Rodney Gatt) which registered its second win in a row and in Malta after taking the lead when the front trotters turned for their final straight. Jackpot Visais (Charles Degiorgio) and Galys Du Patural (Paul Galea) followed home in that order.
From the three class Gold semifinals, twelve horses made it to the final stage.
Favourite Flash De Celland (Michael Ellul) sealed its second consecutive win in the first semifinal after leading all the way. In the second semifinal it was Duc Du Chene (Miguel Debattista) which registered its second win after dashing from the outside100 metres from the end.
The last class Gold semifinal was won by Far West De Chenu (Rodney Gatt) which easily gained its first win in Malta by two lengths from Destrier D’Or (Redent Magro).
The three class Silver semifinals were won by Swedish mare Carbonfibre (Jesmar Gafa’) which gained its second win in a row and in Malta; by French Cash De Beauregard (Joshua Bowell) which took the lead with 200m to go and by favourite Summerrazz (Paul Galea) which secured its third win in a row and in Malta after leading all the way.
