The 39th and the 40th meeting of the season were held during the weekend at the Marsa Racetrack. These programmes included the Mapfre Championship final for class Silver trotters and the Johnnie Walker Cup final for class Gold trotters.
Both finals were held on a short distance of 2140m and were won respectively by Carbonfiber and Eurythmic Sisu.
In the class Silver final 12 trotters lined up for the race.
As expected, Swedish mare Carbonfiber (Jesmar Gafa) was the fastest horse at first, opening a small lead from Hipanema Ellis (Charles Camilleri) and Forever Ice (Nathaniel Barbara).
Carbonfiber managed to lead all the way and past the finishing post easily in order to take its third win in a row and in Malta by three lenghts from Mojo Express (Rodney Gatt) and Forever Ice.
Cash De Beauregard (Joshua Bowell) ended in fourth place.
At the end of this final, Anthony Mifsud, MRC chairman presented the winning trophy to Michael Sultana and Jesmar Gafa’ the owner and driver respectively of the winning horse. It should be noted that this was Gafa’s 200th win in his career.
In the class Gold final took part another twelve trotters.In this final Swedish Eurythmic Sisu (Kevin Sciberras) increased its speed during the last metres and managed to obtain its third win of the year by a length from Hattusa (Cliferty Calleja) and Espit Chupitos (Charles Camilleri). Extra Mossa (Noel Baldacchino) followed home in that order. The winner clocked an average time of 1.14.9” per kilometer.
At the end of this final, Alfred Braddick, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the prestigious cup to Kevin Sciberras the driver and owner of the winning horse.
