Luke Micallef and Lisa Bezzina consolidated their lead on top of the Athletics Malta National Road Running League series, by making it two wins out of two, this time emerging victorious on a 5km seafront race hosted by Evolve Endurance Club in Ta’ Xbiex.
A closely fought race among the men sees Pembroke’s Micallef take the win with a time of 14:57, six seconds ahead of Evolve’s Gabriel Farrugia, with Mellieħa’s Dillon Cassar third after a very close finish with Simon Spiteri (St Patrick’s) who recorded the exact same gun time of 15:09.
Lisa Bezzina made it two wins out of two in 18:33, making it a clean sweep for the Pembroke women, as Rosalie Borg placed second in 18:48 with Ritianne Zammit third in 19:52.
This treble allows Pembroke to consolidate their position as early pace-setters in the Clubs’ league, ahead of Mellieħa AC and Żurrieq AC.
Among the men, Mellieħa maintain an advantage at the top of the league, ahead of Evolve Endurance Club, with Żurrieq AC in third.
The league will reach half way on December 1 as Rush Athletics Club host a 5k race in Safi.
