The third edition of the Marindex Trophies Volleyball Christmas Tournament will be organised by Paola Volleyball Club between December 16 and 20.
The tournament, which has become a fixture in the calendar of local volleyball, will be held at Corradino Sports Pavilion.
Women’s First Division side Paola Executive Security, led by Michael Magro, and assisted by Antonio Borg, will be joined by Superleague team Flyers and First Division side Depiro in the tournament.
The triangular tournament forms part of the Paola club strategy to continue promoting this sport discipline in Malta.
Club president Dr Kenneth Vella, on behalf of the club committee, thanked the delegates of the participating clubs, Flyers and Depiro, who willingly accepted the Paola club’s invite to participate in this tournament, and also Poala club coaches and committee.
He was again grateful towards Marindex Trophies who are again the main sponsors of this tournament.
“As expected, this season is an important one for the club,” Dr Vella said.
“Our team is currently playing in the First Division and is working hard to be promoted to the Superleague. It is also introducing within the main team players that were brought up within its nursery.
“The club is currently also investing in various initiatives, even to strengthen the club nursery, thanks to the ongoing work of Carmen Gauci, Bogdan Lackovic and Alex Albanese, and also on an administrative level, through the work of Alexia Brincau, Tiziana Bonnici and Claire Falzon.”
“Alessio Muscat is also coordinating social volleyball sessions which are held every Saturday at Corradino Pavilion,” added Dr Vella.
The work is being complemented and consolidated by the collaborative agreement between Paola club and Serie A1 Italian team, Akademia Sant’Anna.
Dr Vella thanked Fabrizio Costantino, president of Akademia Sant’Anna, and his colleagues for their collaboration.
During this season Vella was also appointed member of the Italian club committee giving his support as Director of International Affairs
More initiatives with the Italian club will be announced at the beginning of next year, with some being open to the general public and children who love practising volleyball.
Dr Vella insisted that this tournament would not have been possible without the support of Malta Volleyball Association, led by the president Edward Gatt, and the
main sponsors, Marindex Trophies.
The club is also grateful to other sponsors such as Executive Security Services, Maypole, Yes2Health Fitness Club, HandsOn Systems, Maypole, Izibet and Dragonara Casino And Brasserie.
Paola Volleyball Club said they plan to keep the Christmas tournament as an annual fixture in the club’s activities.
The past two editions of this tournament were won by Birkirkara and Paola Executive Security.
