Paris 2024 chief Estanguet set to become IOC member

The chief organiser of the 2024 Paris Games, Tony Estanguet, is set to return to the Olympic movement as a member of the International Olympic Committee, the body announced on Tuesday.

The nomination of Frenchman Estanguet, 46, was approved by a vote by correspondence, the IOC said.

He served an eight-year term on the IOC’s athletes’ commission until 2021.

Former tree-time canoe slalom Olympic gold-medallist Estanguet oversaw last year’s Olympics and Paralympics which were widely considered to be one of the most successful Summer Games in history.

“Through a vote by correspondence, the Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the nomination of Tony Estanguet,” the IOC said.

His election will take place at the IOC Session in Greece on March 18-21 when IOC members will also elect a successor to President Thomas Bach.
