The highly anticipated first race of the Hudson Race Series welcomed yet another sell-out crowd to the historic Three Cities, where 300 runners took on a fast and scenic route along the iconic waterfront.
Participants competed in one of two distances –10km or 5km – in crisp, yet sunny January weather.
Mark Herrera took the lead in the 10k race ahead of Jemima Farley, who was hot on his heels for a large part of the race, until the second loop when Herrera pushed ahead to widen the gap, crossing the finishin line first.
Nonetheless, Farley was the second athlete to finish, winning the women’s category in the process.
The second male to make it to the podium was Daniel Portelli who was followed by Gianni Ciappara.
Following Farley on the females’ podium was Josann Attard Pulis followed by Ritianne Zammit.
A close race unfolded in the 5K race, with Alessandro Vizzini narrowly claiming victory over Kersten James. The two were separated by just two seconds.
Miguel Cassar secured a strong third-place finish.
In the women’s race, Charyl Fava delivered a strong performance, comfortably leading ahead of second-placed Nadia Mifsud and third-placed Lorna Mifsud.
“This race truly highlights the charm of the Three Cities, blending history with sport in such a unique way,” said Charlie Demanuele, Race Director.
“We’re delighted with the incredible turnout and thrilled to kick off the Hudson Race Series on such a high note, especially as this year we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the very first race in the series.”
Remarkable feat
Among the participants was veteran athlete Godwin Tonna, who holds the remarkable record of competing in every edition of these races since their inception in 2015.
In a statement, race organisers expressed their gratitude towards Hudson Group for their ongoing support as well as the Race Officials’ Team, the medical and logistics team, Transport Malta as well as the local councils of Cospicua, Senglea and Vittoriosa.
The next race of the 2025 Hudson Race Series will take place on April 6 in Tal-Maqluba. More information can be obtained online – https://10kseriesmalta.com/
