SportMalta hosted the Celebrating Sport in Malta 2025 Recognition Night, marking a significant milestone in Malta’s sporting journey.
This year’s ceremony featured distinguished special guests, including Special Olympics Malta president Lydia Abela, former Olympian Valerio Vermiglio, and Antonio Silva, president of European Aquatics.
The event celebrated a decade of transformative impact by recognising the achievements of athletes, associations, and voluntary organisations for their dedication, hard work, and success in using sports to change lives.
During the night, the Malta Basketball Association received a special recognition for collaborating with SportMalta to build a high-level sporting venue in Ta’ Qali.
Neil Agius was honoured to raise awareness about environmental issues through his record-breaking swim.
The Malta Employees Sports Association were honoured for promoting an active and healthy workforce.
On the other hand, the Jarhead Foundation were recognised for engaging minorities through the sport of sailing.
There were three organisations recognised for hosting international competitions that put Malta on the international sporting map.
These are Special Olympics Malta, which organised the 2022 Invitational Games, the 2023 GSSE Organising Committee and the European Aquatics Final 4 Champions League 2024 Organizing Committee.
The event also recognised the SportMalta Employees for a decade of dedication to the organisation’s mission while Caritas Malta and Dar tal-Providenza received special recognition for fostering generosity and community through sport.
Sports Minister Clifton Grima was honoured for his leadership and unwavering support of Maltese sport.
Alfred Cachia and Fr Hilary Tagliaferro were honoured for their lifelong dedication to Maltese sport.
The night also marked the 10th anniversary of SportMalta, a milestone celebrated with inspiring speeches.
Sports Minister Clifton Grima highlighted the Maltese government’s robust support for sport and physical activities, emphasising its role in improving quality of life.
Matthew Pisani, chairman of SportMalta, underscored the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in achieving these successes.
Mark Cutajar, CEO of SportMalta, paid tribute to both past and present employees of the organization, acknowledging their pivotal role in fulfilling SportMalta’s mission over the years.
