Birkirkara continued their intense transfer activity as the Premier League club have agreed terms to sign Bulgarian defender Tomislav Papazov, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Stripes have been working hard this month to revamp their squad after a disappointing ending to the Opening Round which saw the club forfeit top spot to Floriana and end in second place.
A central defender was one of the priorities for coach Stefano De Angelis and the Stripes have identified Papazov as a perfect reinforcement this month.
Talks between Birkirkara FC and Taranto intensified late last week and the Times of Malta can confirm that there is a deal in place for the 23-year-old to join Birkirkara.
Papazov came through the youth ranks of Levski Sofia before being promoted to the first team. During his time in Bulgaria he had a loan spell at Hebar Pazardzhik before heading to Italy where he joined Foggia.
In January 2023, Papazov had a short spell in Spain with Badalona Futur before returning to Italy with Foggia.
Last summer Papazov agreed to join Serie C side Taranto where he made 11 appearance s and scored one goal.
It is likely that Papazov will be confirmed as a new Birkirkara player in the coming hours and will be eligible to make his debut in their nextx Premier League clash against Melita at the Tony Bezina Stadium on Sunday.
Papazov is Birkirkara’s fourth signing this month after they brought in Donovan Makoma, Kemar Reid, and Alex Alves.
