Veteran goalkeeper Justin Haber completes move to Żabbar St Patrick

Matthew Grech joins Birkirkara FC

Justin Haber is set to continue his career with Premier League side Żabbar St Patrick.

The veteran goalkeeper, who this season became the oldest player to play in Malta’s top flight, left Gżira United at the start of this month and was determined to continue his career in the Premier League.

Haber after a few days of negotiations, the former Floriana and Birkirkara goalkeeper reached an agreement with newly-promoted side Żabbar St Patrick and a deal was sealed on Thursday.

At Żabbar St Patrick, Haber will be replacing goalkeeper Matthew Grech who has left the club and agreed to join Birkirkara FC.

“Birkirkara FC is pleased to announce the signing of Maltese goalkeeper, Matthew Grech. The 28 year old goalkeeper joins the Stripes from Zabbar on a two-and-a-half-year contract,” Birkirkara said in a statement

“Grech is no new name to local football, establishing himself as one of the most promising local goalkeepers in Malta. This has been recognised as his performances earned him several call ups at all levels with the Maltese national team ⚽️

“Please join us in welcoming Matthew to our club. We look forward to seeing you on the pitch!”

Żabbar St Patrick is the latest club for Haber who throughout his long career in Maltese football was on the books of his boyhood club Floriana, Birkirkara, Marsaxlokk, Hibernians, Mosta, and Santa Lucia.

The former Malta goalkeeper brings a lot of experience at Żabbar having enjoyed a long career away from our shores where he managed to play in several countries with his most eye-catching spells being at English side Sheffield United and Hungarian giants Ferencvaros.
