Ħamrun Spartans have announced that they reached an agreement with forward Luke Montebello to leave the club with immediate effect.
“The club announces that Luke Montebello is no longer a player of Ħamrun Spartans. Both parties have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect,” Ħamrun Spartans said in a statement.
“We extend our gratitude to Luke for his contribution during his time with the club and wish him al the best in his football career.”
The Malta champions did not give any details on the reason behind however, the Times of Malta, can reveal that the Spartans took this decision on disciplinary measures.
Montebello had a physical altercation with two supporters at the end of last week’s 1-0 defeat to Sliema Wanderers.
The player and the club’s top hierarchy decided that it would be better if they go separate ways and Montebello’s contract was terminated with immediate effect.
Montebello had been on the books of Ħamrun Spartans since 2022 and helped the club to win the Premier League title during the last two seasons.
At the end of last season, Montebello was crowned as the MFA Player of the Year Award after finishing as the Premier League top scorer.
