Driven by Jesmar Gafa’, Swedish Dats So Cool won this season’s major event, the Tazza l-Kbira final for class Premier trotters on a long distance of 2640m.
This final, organised with the support of Bank of Valletta, formed part of the 16th meeting of the season consisting of eight races all for trotters.
Twelve trotters lined up for the class Premier final.
Dats So Cool (Jesmar Gafa’) was the fastest horst at first, opening a small lead from Isabelle Sisu (Nathaniel Barbara) and First Des Charrons (Noel Baldacchino). Gafa’s trotter led all the way and sealed its first win in Malta after sustaining the challenge of Al Capone Stecca (Carl Caruana) in the final metres.
Extra Du Chatelet (Charles Camilleri) and Velvet Gio (Rodney Gatt) ended respectively in third and fourth place in front of Galago Du Cadran (Paul Galea).
At the end of this final, Kenneth Farrugia CEO, of Bank Of Valletta presented the prestigious cup to Steve Farrugia and Jesmar Gafa’ owner and driver respectively of the winning horse in the presence of Minister Clifton Grima and officials of Malta Equidrome, Malta Racing Club and Equestri Malta.
The winner clocked an average time of 1.13.3” per kilometer which is a new record for this competition.
For Gafa this was his first win in the Tazza l-Kbira.
Meanwhile, another meeting was held on Saturday afternoon.
This included a normal class Premier race also on a long distance of 2640 metres.

The early leader, El Greco Bello (Ludvic Ghigo) was outsmarted midway through the final straight by Diablo D’ Herfraie driven by Rodney Gatt.
Kennedy (Charles Camilleri) and Sahara Peyote (Jason Vassallo) followed home in that order. For Diablo D’Herfraie this was its first win of the season.
