Athletics Malta’s Annual General Meeting served as a key opportunity for reflection on the past year’s achievements and challenges, while also setting the tone for the road ahead.
From strengthening local competitions to increasing international exposure for athletes, the Federation continues to build momentum toward long-term growth and excellence in Maltese athletics.
Association president Aldrin Cassar highlighted a significant increase in the federation’s activity, including the successful organisation of 35 track events and six road races throughout the season.
Moreover, the number of Maltese athletes in international competitions and training camps abroad, thanks to the support of the Maltese Olympic Committee and Sport Malta, has continued to rise, while at the same time increasing the administrative responsibility of the Council.
Athletics Malta has also continued to invest in the track facilities at the Marsa Stadium, to the benefit not only of local athletes, but also of international clubs and athletes who are choosing Malta as training destination particularly in winter months.
Despite a reduction in funding over the past year, the federation ensured that all available resources were used efficiently to create the best possible opportunities for Maltese athletes.
This commitment is now bearing fruit, as reflected in the steady improvement of athletes’ performances on the international stage.
The results obtained in the past years were testament to this progress, and Athletics Malta is looking forward to its athletes’ contributions in the upcoming GSSE Games.
During the AGM, members unanimously approved the Administrative Report, presented by the president, and the Financial Report, prepared by treasurer Darren Micallef.
While the current Council enters its second year of a two-year term, the meeting also saw the election of a new secretary-general, following the resignation of Nicolai Portelli.
Antonella Chouhal was elected to the post.
As Chouhal previously held a seat on the Council, a separate election will be held in the coming weeks to fill the resulting vacancy.
