The most important event in Sunday’s 18th meeting of the season was the Bavaria Championship final for class Gold trotters on a long distance of 2640m. This final was won by French mare Floralyse D’Authou driven by one of its owners, Michael Grech. Sunday’s programme consisted of ten races all for trotters.
Twelve trotters lined up for the class Gold final. Cruise (Paul Galea) was the fastest trotter during the first metres, opening a small lead from Dynamit Life (Kerstin Galea) and Floralyse D’Authou (Michael Grech).
However, during the last metres Cruise started to slow down and the final straight produced a keen duel between Floralyse D’Authou and Vincent As (Oliver Briffa).
It was the former which took its first win in Malta after that the photofinish was consulted. Cruise (Paul Galea) and Caucasien (Rodney Gatt) ended respectively in third and fourth place.
At the end of this final, Mark Farrugia, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the winning trophy to George Spiteri and Michael Grech co-owners of the winning mare.
This was Floralyse D’Authou’s first win in Malta and Grech’s first win in his career.

Sunday’s card also included a class Premier race on a long distance of 3140m. Here the early leader of the race, Espoir D’Elphigny (Jesmar Gafa’) was outsmarted by Ecume De Furetais (Rodney Gatt) midway through the final straight.
Crack Money (Paul Galea) and Falco Du Douet (Marvin Cauchi) followed home in that order. For Ecume De Furetais this was its third win in a row and in Malta in an average time of 1.14.7” per kilometre.
This is also a new national record on the 3140 metres distance.
