Sliema Wanderers have agreed to sign Brazilian wingback Thiago Espindola, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The veteran defender is set to become the Blues’ second acquisition in the summer transfer window following the capture of Malta international forward Luke Montebello.
The Wanderers have been working very hard in the past few days to try and bring in reinforcements to their squad following a disappointing 2024-25 season.
In the previous campaign, the club missed out on a place in the Malta Premier final after losing the semi-final to Birkirkara, and also failed to defend the FA Trophy won the previous campaign.
The Blues are keen to press on the accelerator in bringing in reinforcements, and they have already wrapped up agreements with Montebello and now with Espindola.
The lateral defender was on the books of Gżira United last season, and his contract with the Maroons expired at the end of the campaign.
The Brazilian had been with Gżira for the past four years and has been a regular member in the Gżira United side this season and played a part in helping the club retain its top-flight status after a difficult campaign.
The wingback was brought over to Malta by Ħamrun Spartans in 2017 and then moved to Sirens before joining Gżira United in 2021.
