Despite the defeat, their performance secured another silver medal for Malta, closing out the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe on a high note.

With this result, Malta finishes the Games with a total of 55 medals, including 13 golds — the highest number of gold medals ever achieved by our nation in a GSSE edition held outside Malta.

In addition, this is Malta’s second-best overall medal tally in GSSE history, just behind the record set two years ago when we hosted the event on home soil.

The next edition will be hosted in Monaco, in two years.

17.03 Malta lose the first set 6-1 as Luxembourg move just one set away from clinching gold in this final GSSE event of this edition.

13.02 In a powerful display of sportsmanship, Iceland’s Iris Skúladóttir found herself on her knees, struggling to finish the final stretch of the 5km race. Just as the finish line seemed out of reach, Andorra’s Aina Bons stopped, reached out, and gently grabbed her by the shoulders—helping her across the line.

It was a simple gesture, yet one that captured the very essence of sport: unity, respect, and compassion beyond competition.

Moments like these remind us why we love sport—not just for the thrill of victory, but for the humanity it reveals.

12.57 SILVER! McNamara manages to kick a gear in the final part of the 5k race to secure another Athletics medal for Malta.

12.00pm The first race of the day is the cycling road race which is being held around the streets of La Vella.

The women’s race has already been completed and Team Malta missed out on medals but the official results have yet to be published by the organisers.

Grima Buttigieg placed third in 138.7475.

The result is still unofficial, and we are awaiting official confirmation given the drama in the Duet Technical Routine on Friday night.

11.40 Good morning and welcome to our daily blog on the 2025 GSSE. Today we woke up to the fantastic news that Ana Culic and Thea Grima Buttigieg were promoted to the gold medal position in the artistic swimming Duet Technical routine after their protest was upheld.
