Birkirkara have announced the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Miguel Angel Martinez.
“Birkirkara FC is pleased to announce the signing of Spanish goalkeeper, Miguel Angel Martinez. The Spaniard is a product of the Real Madrid’s football academy, better known as La Fábrica. He had several spells throughout his career, including playing in England, Spain and Italy. His latest spell was with Italian club, Reggio Calabria,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper came through the youth ranks of Real Madrid, before heading to Italy where he was on the books of Catania before heading to Spanish side San Agustin.
In 2021 he returned to Catania before he moved to Triestina and Pordenone.
Last season, Martinez joined Reggio Calabria, in the Italian Serie D, where he amassed eight appearances.
In a statement, Martinez said that he was delighted to join the Stripes.ż
“I had several other opportunities abroad, but felt incredibly intrigued to play in Europe and challenge for all the highest honours in Maltese football,” Martinez said.
