Watch: Ħamrun Spartans sign former Roma attacking midfielder Ante Coric

Ħamrun Spartans have secured the services of former Roma attacking midfielder Ante Coric, the Times of Malta can confirm.

Boosted by their impressive victory over Lithuanian side FK Zalgiris in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, the Malta champions are currently chasing the dream of booking a place in the League phase of the UEFA Conference League.

After being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev, the Spartans are gearing up for their upcoming tough assignment in the UEFA Europa League, where they will face Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Spartans’ top hierarchy have been working hard in the past few weeks to bring in more quality signings to their squad and have identified Croatian attacking midfielder Coric as their main target.

Coric has an eye-catching CV. After coming through the youth ranks of Austrian side AKA Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.

He was promoted to the Dinamo Zagreb first team and helped the club to four successive league titles and three Croatian Cup titles.

Coric finally made the big move to Serie A side Roma in January 2019.

However, Coric stayed at Roma for six months before heading to Spain, where he played for UD Almeria on a loan stint.

In the following years, he also had spells at Dutch side VVV-Venlo and NK Olimpija, in Slovenia, where he managed to lift the National Cup.

In 2021, he was signed by the Swiss side FC Zurich, with whom he won the Swiss title.

Last season, Coric returned to his homeland, where he signed for NK Rudes.

Coric has also represented his country during his teenage years, amassing over 50 appearances between U-15 and U-21 level.

He also boasts three international appearances with the Croatian national team.

The Spartans are planning to register Coric in time to feature for the Spartans in next week’s UEFA Europa League clash against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
