Malta men’s team without key players for San Marino friendly

Jake Brimmer is one of the unavailable players for the San Marino friendly.

U21 side also hit with injuries ahead of Greece qualifier

Malta men’s national team coach Emilio De Leo will be without several players for the friendly match against San Marino, scheduled for this Tuesday, at the National Stadium (kick-off: 9pm).

Following medical checks conducted upon the team’s return from the World Cup qualifying match against Lithuania (1-1), it was decided that Jake Brimmer – yet to make his Malta debut – and Jodi Jones would return to their respective clubs. Ryan Camenzuli was also ruled out to continue his recovery.

On the other hand, Matthew Guillaumier, who missed the Lithuania match due to suspension, is expected to be back in the squad.

De Leo has also released Valletta pair Jake Azzopardi and Keyon Ewurum to join the Malta U21 selection for their UEFA European Championship Group F qualifier against Greece.

The match will be played on the same day (Tuesday, September 9) at the Centenary Stadium (kick-off: 7pm).

Meanwhile, the U21 squad has also suffered injury setbacks. Basil Tuma and Alfie Bridgeman have both been ruled out as they continue their recovery, adding to coach Davide Mazzotta’s growing list of absentees.
