Last weekend, Kavallieri RFC hosted CUS Catania for a friendly fixture that had all the ingredients of proper rugby – grit, flair, and camaraderie.
With the main pitch still under wraps, the game was played on the training ground, but you’d never have known it. The Kavallieri organising committee made sure the Sicilian guests lacked for nothing — from setup to hospitality, every detail was spot on.
On the field, both sides delivered a spirited display of running rugby that had the crowd cheering from start to finish.
Kavallieri came out on top with a hard-fought 26-19 win, but the real victory came at the final whistle – when players formed a tunnel to honour their opponents, and everyone shared food, drinks, and plenty of laughs afterwards.
On Sunday morning, the good vibes rolled on at the Seminary Grounds in Rabat, where coaches, parents, Catania players, Kavallieri girls U14, and U16 teams all mixed in for a lively flag rugby tournament – proof that rugby really is a family affair.
The management of CUS Catania extended their congratulations and warm thanks to Kavallieri for the hospitality, and an invitation is already on the table for a return match in Sicily.
Rugby won again last weekend – on and off the pitch.
