Xavier Rizzo qualifies to the last 16 in the Junior World Snooker Championship

Xavier Rizzo is through to the Last 16 of the World Junior Snooker Championships, which are currently being held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The Maltese player had a very positive day in the championships as earlier in they day he reached the knock out stages after topping his group.

In the last 32, Rizzo was up against Romanian player Iustin Ilie Scripei.

The home player won the first frame despite the Maltese youth potting a 50-point break, which is his best run in this competition so far.

From then on, Rizzo dominated and won the next two frames but the Romanian brought the match to level again.

Rizzo once again showed superiority over his opponent, winning two more consecutive frames to close out the match with a 4-2 scoreline.  

On Thursday, Rizzo will play against 16-year-old Thai player Prin Ratmukda.

Undoubtedly, this young Asian player is one of the best in this competition.

He is yet to lose a frame and won all 16 frames in the five matches he played. In the last 32 round, he trounced the Scot Jack Borwick, who three years ago won the European Under-16 Championship in Malta.
