Second consecutive win for Chris Peplow at World Amateur Snooker Championship

The group phase of the World Snooker Championship of the World Snooker Federation (WSF) taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria, continued with Chris Peplow being the only Maltese player to win from the four players in action on Monday.

Peplow has bagged his second consecutive win and is currently top of Group X.

The Maltese player beat Thailand’s Lomnaw Issarangkun Na Ayuttaya, who won the first frame, but Peplow from the second frame showed superiority and took control of the game, closing the second frame with a 63-point break.

In the next two frames, the Maltese gave little chance to his opponent and comfortably brought the match to an end with a final score of 3-2.

Aaron Busuttil, Alex Borg, and Chris Camilleri were on the losing side on the third day of competition.

For Busuttil, it was his second loss during this championship.

He was up against 15-year-old Chinese player Wang Xinzhong, who last week lost in the quarter-finals of the Junior Championship.

After the fourth frame, the game went to a decisive frame where Xinzhong made a 105-point break for a final score of 3-2.

The Chinese player had a chance to extend his break to 139 points after potting all the 15 red balls but played a strong shot on the black ball that jumped out of the pocket and out of the table.

In other matches on Monday, Alex Borg lost to Joel Connolly of Northern Ireland 3-0 while Chris Camilleri suffered his second loss against Ganzorig Soyolsuren of Mongolia 3-1.
