Sirens enjoyed a positive day at the European Aquatics Challenger Cup in the penultimate day of the Qualification Round 2 when bagging back-to-back victories.
The Malta champions started the day by overcoming the challenge of English side London Otter 11-8.
The match turned out to be evenly poised with the English side taking a slender 6-5 lead at the end of the second session.
However, the Maltese side stepped up a gear in the final two sessions as they turned the game around with a strong performance in the third quarter, where they netted four goals against London’s one to move 9-7 ahead.
The St Paul’s Bay outfit kept up the momentum in the final session, which they won by the odd goal in three, and sealed an 11-8 win.
Kaia Agius was Sirens’ leading scorer with five goals while Chloe Amato bagged a hat-trick. The other goals for the Maltese side came from Martha Perici Ferrante, who scored a brace, and Samantha Rezende Ferreira.
On Saturday night, Sirens were in a class of their own when they brushed aside Dalton Koleji SK 23-8.
As the scoreline shows, Sirens proved too strong for the Turkish side and had the game wrapped up by the half-time interval when leading 11-5.
In the final two sessions, Sirens continued to press on the accelerator, finding the net 12 times to seal a comprehensive victory.
Kaia Agius and Chloe Amato again stood out when netting six goals apiece while Zaira Bartolo found the net four times. Kendra Navarro scored a hat-trick while Perici Ferrante scored two goals.
The other scorers for Sirens were Elaya Montfort and Nevise Agius.
Sirens, who had lost their opening two matches against Goztepe Sport Klub 27-16 and Nevsehir Beldiye 11-5, will wrap up their European commitments when they face Croatian side VK Jadran Split on Sunday.
