A new sponsorship agreement has been reached between Chesterfield FC and Malta’s tourism promotion brand VisitMalta, part of the Malta Tourism Authority, with the collaboration aimed at promoting Malta as a travel destination among football supporters in the United Kingdom.
As part of the partnership, a prize draw has been launched via the club’s official Facebook page, offering supporters the chance to win a holiday for a family of four to Malta.
VisitMalta branding will feature prominently at the club’s home ground, appearing on pitch-side advertising boards, the stadium’s big screen, and in pre-match and post-match video interviews.
VisitMalta CEO Carlo Micallef said the partnership offers an opportunity to promote the islands to a wider audience through football’s global appeal.
“We are proud that VisitMalta, in cooperation with Chesterfield Football Club, has the opportunity to grow awareness of Malta as a destination among supporters and the wider community in the region. Football has a unique way of connecting people, and this collaboration allows us to share Malta’s story with new audiences,” he said.
“We are also particularly excited to see two Maltese representing the club, which further strengthens the natural connection between Chesterfield and Malta.”
Chesterfield’s marketing manager Bridget Ball welcomed the partnership and thanked VisitMalta for supporting the initiative.
“Thank you to VisitMalta for coming on board and offering this generous prize. It is a fantastic opportunity for someone to visit a popular island destination with centuries of famous history,” she said.
Founded in 1866, Chesterfield FC is one of England’s historic clubs and plays its home matches at the SMH Group Stadium in Derbyshire.
The partnership with VisitMalta is further strengthened by the presence of two Maltese at the club, Justin Tellus – Academy Head of Recruitment and Development Officer – and goalkeeper James Sissons.
VisitMalta has increasingly used international sports sponsorships as part of its tourism promotion strategy.
The Malta Tourism Authority currently partners with clubs and sporting events worldwide, including Premier League side Manchester United as an official destination partner, the cycling outfit Team Polti Kometa and the prestigious race Giro d’Italia.
The organisation has also supported football initiatives abroad, including Australia’s Caroline Springs George Cross FC, as well as Maltese clubs competing in UEFA competitions.
