Gabriel Farrugia continued his march towards his first-ever Road Running League title, dominating from start to finish the 10k Beat Your PB Race hosted by Corsa and held in Ta’ Xbiex.
The Żurrieq athlete completed the distance in 30:14, establishing yet another under-23 national record in the process. Pembroke’s Mark Herrera (32:49) and Jean Claude Rondon, also of Żurrieq (33:09), completed the podium.
In the female category, Lisa Bezzina (Pembroke) returned to victory in 37:55, with Isaura Camilleri (Zurrieq) confirming her strong recent condition coming in second with 38:09. Monalisa Camilleri (Libertas AC) took third spot in 39:59.
In the men’s league, Farrugia remains comfortably in the lead with two races to go, ahead of Aidan Tanti and Charlton Debono, both of Evolve Endurance Club.
Among the women, Roberta Schembri remains on course for the title, while Isaura Camilleri moves up to second place, with Rosalie Borg in third.
In the clubs league, two athletes on the podium in the men’s race extend Żurrieq Wolves’ already strong lead at the top, while Mellieħa AC leapfrog Evolve Endurance Club in second place. In the female category, Pembroke Athleta enjoy a healthy lead on Evolve EC.
The league will reach its end with two 5k races, first on April 19 in Ta’ Qali, which also serves as the National Championship on the distance, and finally on May 3, as Mellieħa AC host the Sliema to Pieta’ 5km race.
