Malta’s number one squash player, Kijan Sultana, delivered an impressive performance at the Gladstone PSA Satellite 2026 tournament in Gladstone, Australia, finishing as runner-up after reaching the final.
After receiving a first-round bye, Sultana began his campaign with a convincing 3–0 win over Gianluca Bushell-O’Connor (12-10, 11-4, 11-2).
The Maltese player then defeated top seed Brendan MacDonald in the semi-final with a strong 3-1 performance (11-8, 11-13, 11-9, 11-5) to secure a place in the final.
In the championship match, Sultana made a strong start by winning the opening game against James Lloyd, before the latter fought back to take the match 3-1.
Sultana’s runner-up placing represents another encouraging result as he continues to compete internationally.
His training programme in Australia is supported by the Malta Sport Scholarships Scheme, financed by the Government of Malta, while the Maltese Olympic Committee, Sport Malta and Malta Squash continue to support his participation in international competitions.
