Organised by Agones SFC in collaboration with the Malta Triathlon Federation, this year’s sprint distance championship will be remembered not only for the high level of competition but also for its unprecedented participation.
Triathletes of all levels turned out in force, signalling a continued surge in the sport’s popularity across Malta.
From the opening swim to the final strides of the run, the race unfolded at a relentless pace. Kai Azzopardi delivered a commanding performance, showcasing both tactical precision and raw endurance.
Maintaining a strong position throughout the swim and bike segments, he surged ahead during the run to secure a decisive victory and claim the national title. Ryan Muscat and Aiden Muscat finished second and third respectively.
On the women’s side, Danica Bonello Spiteri demonstrated exceptional form and determination. With a well-balanced race across all three disciplines, she held off strong competition to cross the finish line as the first female athlete, earning her place at the top of the podium. Lindsey Pirotta and Pia Grech finished second and third respectively.
A standard distance race, held on the same day, was won by Keith Galea in the men’s category and Deborah Schembri in the women’s category.
Officials from the Malta Triathlon Federation praised both the athletes and the wider community for contributing to the event’s success.
The surge in participation reflects increased interest in triathlon, as well as the effectiveness of grassroots development and athlete support initiatives in recent years.
