Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s left it late to book their place in the BOV Challenge Cup final, edging past S.K. Victoria Wanderers 2-1 after extra time.

S.K. Victoria Wanderers looked on course for an upset when Duvan Vielma Alvarez broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, giving the Gozo side the lead.

However, Birżebbuġa responded through substitute Duvan Torres, who found the equaliser on 71 minutes to force the match into extra-time.

With penalties looming, the decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time. Daniel Zerafa, already the hero in the promotion decider against Swieqi United, stepped up once again, scoring a dramatic winner to send the Saints into the final.

Edgar Degabriele’s side will now face Melita as they aim to add the Challenge Cup to their growing list of recent honours, having already secured the BOV National Amateur League I title and the BOV Amateur Cup last season.
