In order to integrate academic knowledge with practical application in real-world situations, Hudson pursued the program while expanding his work experience in strength and conditioning and athlete performance.
With a focus on evidence-based practice, the Master’s program addressed important topics such sports nutrition, biomechanics, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
One of the main focuses of his study was finishing a research thesis named “The Role of Flywheel Training in Football: A Systematic Review of Its Impact on Injury Prevention and Performance Enhancement,” which focuses on how modern-day resistance training techniques are used in football.
Hudson was exposed to a high-performance learning environment during the course of the program, with lecturers who held prominent positions in elite sport, including practitioners employed by prestigious football teams and internationally renowned medical and performance departments.
Hudson also made several trips to Ciudad Real Madrid (Valdebebas) during his academic stay in Spain. He gained firsthand knowledge of the infrastructure, daily operations, and performance criteria of Real Madrid CF, one of the top football teams in the world, thanks to these visits.
Balancing academic commitments with ongoing professional development required a high level of discipline and consistency. The ability to connect theory with practice proved to be a key advantage throughout the programme.
Hudson noted that the experience has significantly shaped his approach to athlete development, particularly in the integration of structured strength training, performance monitoring, and individualised nutritional strategies.
Looking ahead, he aims to continue developing his career within football performance, with a focus on bridging the gap between scientific research and applied practice, while supporting athletes in achieving both performance outcomes and long-term physical resilience.
