Malta international goalkeeper Henry Bonello has completed a move to Sliema Wanderers. The veteran goalkeeper was out of contract after his contract with Ħamrun Spartans was not renewed.
Bonello was approached by several Premier League clubs who courted his signature, including Birkirkara and Hibernians. Still, in the end, the towering goalkeeper has decided to return to his former club Sliema Wanderers.
“We are delighted to welcome back Malta’s No. 1, Henry Bonello, as he returns to the club where it all started,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“A proven goalkeeper and one of the country’s finest players, Henry returns to the Wanderers ready to begin another chapter in blue.”
In Bonello, the Wanderers are bringing to the club a natural-born winner as during his career he managed to lift the Premier League title eight times.
His first league title came at Hibernians in 2015, then he moved to Valletta where he helped the Citizens to five league titles.
Then he joined Ħamrun Spartans, where he not only helped the club to three league titles but last season was a key figure in helping the Reds secure an historic qualification to the League Phase of the UEFA Conference League.
Now, he is back at Sliema Wanderers, the club with whom he started his career and also with whom he managed to win an FA Trophy in 2009.
