Sliema Wanderers have continued to bolster their squad after announcing the signing of Brazilian forward Gilmar for the upcoming season.
Gilmar, 30, has returned to the Blues for a second spell after joining Sliema last January but managed only to play three games after the Maltese top-flight was stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are delighted to announce that Brazilian attacking midfielder Gilmar Ribeiro will be re-joining the blues for the upcoming season,” a statement said on the Wanderers’ official Facebook page.
“The 30-year-old Brazilian had originally joined our club last January, but due to the league being cut short, only managed to make 3 appearances.
Despite this, Gilmar is still not a new face to Maltese football having already played with Naxxar Lions and also been a vital part of Hibernians FC’s season 16/17 title winning side.”
Over the years, the Brazilian has gained a reputation as one of the best offensive players to ever grace Maltese football
In fact, Gilmar enjoyed a golden spell in Maltese football which reached its peak in season 2016/2017 when he helped Hibernians to be crowned as champions.
Prior joining Sliema in January, Gilmar was released by Al Hamriyah, of the UAE.
