Żurrieq concede goal in act of sportsmanship

St George’s had a week to remember as they managed to break their duck in their respective matches played last week in the FMA League.

The Cottonera side registered only one point from their first four matches but these two wins gave them a huge boost in the standings.

The first match against Qormi was an exciting affair although in the end they managed to win 8-4.

Yessous Camilleri scored a hat-trick with Clayton Micallef netting a brace. Luke Gatt, Christian Grech and Keith Darmanin completed the score for the Cottonera side.

Qormi’s goals came through Luis Lopez (2) and Jonathan Scerri.

In their second match, St George’s resumed their convincing mode as they saw off Żurrieq 5-1.

Once again Camilleri was in fine form as he netted a brace while Mattia Mentosa, Clayton Micallef and Christian Grech also put their names on the score sheet.

Mark Fenech pulled one back for Żurrieq.

During this match, Żurrieq Futsal made an extraordinary act of sportsmanship as they allowed their opponents to score to compensate for a goal they had scored when one of St George’s was injured on field of play.

In the upper part of the table, champions Luxol obtained their fifth consecutive win as they dominated Ibraġġ Futsal 12-0. Everton Veve scored a hat-trick, Mark Zammit and Dylan Musu hit the target twice while Nathan Cope, Giancarlo Sammut, Leanderson, Maicon Silva and an own goal completed the score for the St Andrews side.

In the direct clash between University of Malta and Valletta it was the latter who got the three points as they won 3-1.

Melvin Borg, Zvezdan Vukovic and Claudio Venuto scored the goals for the Lilywhites as Cleaven Portelli netted the UOM’s consolation goal.

On the other hand, Swieqi United Futsal maintained their good form of late as they saw off Naxxar Lions 12-1. Eduardo Riano Garcia and Robert Stoyanov stole the show with a hat-trick apiece while Michael Borg and Aaron Montebello netted a brace. Adem Zouari and Sergio Gonzalez completed the scoreline for Swieqi.

On the other hand, Jean Noel Azzopardi scored Naxxar’s only goal.

Mellieħa returned to winning ways as they won Żurrieq Futsal 4-2.

It was an exciting match that produced six goals with the Northerners having the last laugh. Ervin Rigo’s double, Armando Gjepali and Dusan Petrovic were on the mark for Mellieħa while Karl Sacco and Mark Fenech kept Żurrieq in the match.

Ta’ Xbiex Futsal also registered a 14-1 win against Marsaskala.

Stefi Cale, Daniel Brincat and Bernard Sciberras registered a hat-trick, Matthew Fenech and Christian Wismayer scored a brace while Redeemer Borg completed the score for his team. Josef Balzan was on target for the Southseasiders.
