John Buttigieg steps down as Floriana coach

John Buttigieg is no longer the coach of Floriana FC after the former Malta coach decided to step down from his role with immediate effect, the club announced.

“John Buttigieg has decided to resign from his position as Floriana FC Coach with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.

“John Buttigieg has informed the Floriana FC committee that this decision was taken for the best interest of the club.

“The Floriana FC committee would like to thank Coach John Buttigieg for his commitment throughout his tenure at the helm of the team.”

The former Malta defender had replaced championship-winning coach Enzo Potenza in December after Floriana’s dismal start to the season.

Nonetheless, Buttigieg did not manage to improve Floriana’s results as he failed to win a game in his seven matches in charge of the team.

In fact, the Greens drew four games and lost the remaining three under Buttigieg’s guidance.

Sources close to the club told the Times of Malta that they are not excluding the return of Potenza at the helm, as Floriana will be now looking to appoint a new coach in bid to rescue their season.

The Floriana Administration have a tough task to identify who are the players who are not pulling their ropes to with the end result of such a precarious situation. I suspect that three players are involved in all of this. The committee should go through all the games in order to identify them through the unacceptable mistakes committed which lead to most of the goals suffered
