Swieqi United strengthened their position on top of the table of the FMA Futsal League after overcoming the stiff opposition of Mellieħa.
As current champions, Luxol were not involved in this week’s matches, even Valletta had the satisfaction of grabbing the three points as they saw off St Georges.
Meanwhile, Naxxar Lions and University of Malta managed to win their respective matches with Mellieħa returning to winning ways after their success over Marsaskala.
Swieqi United maintained their good form of late as they saw off Mellieħa Futsal 5-1. The Northerners gave a good account of themselves although in the end it was the Swieqi side who got the three points at stake.
Steven Camilleri was inspirational for his team as he netted a brace with Rodney Debono, Eduardo Garcia and Andre Cachia putting their names on the scoresheet.
Ervin Rigo scored Mellieħa’s consolation goal.
Valletta registered their seventh win of the campaign as they had the better of St Georges 7-2. For the Citizens, this was a morale-boosting win ahead of their crunch encounter against Swieqi this Friday.
Valletta had Claudio Venuto, Melvin Borg and George Frendo scoring a brace apiece with Andre Ciancio also on target.
The Cottonera side had Leon Camilleri and Aaron Hili hitting the net.
In an entertaining encounter, Naxxar Lions Futsal managed to beat Ibraġġ Futsal 6-5.
As the final scoreline shows, this was a well balanced encounter with both sides giving their all to get the most desired three points.
In the end it was the side from Naxxar who had the last laugh.
For the Lions, Jean Noel Azzopardi and Clyde Bonavia scored two goals while Andrew Scerri and Isaac Delmar were also on target.
For Ibraġġ, Ryan Buhagiar, Jurgen Gauci, Jurgen Ciantar and a Luke Camilleri double kept their team in the match.
University of Malta managed to get a precious 4-3 win against Żurrieq Futsal to maintain their quest for a top four finish.
It wasn’t an easy stroll for the students who had to battle hard to get their desired win. Luke John Stivala scored a brace while Deane Farrugia and Mauro Sultana sealed the issue for their team.
Żurrieq gave a very good account of themselves as Gabriel Ghigo, Karl Sacco and Mark Fenech were on the mark.
Finally Mellieħa returned to winning ways as they saw off Marsaskala Futsal 7-1. The Northerners were a determined lot as they were hungry for points.
Ervin Rigo and Ciprian Socaciu scored a brace while Elvis Pajo, Joshua Tonna and Armando Gjepali also put their names on the score sheet. Dylan Caruana scored the Southsiders’ only goal.
