Maltese player Victor DeGiorgio won the Great Lakes Valley Conference title after Maryville Saints defeated favourites Indianapolis 5-3 after penalties.
DeGiorgio played 39 minutes in the final with Maryville and Indianapolis drawing 1-1 during regular and extra-time.
This is Maryville’s second title in three years, both decided on penalties.
DeGiorgio, 18, has been one of the key players for the Saints during this year, having been named Offensive Player of the Week earlier this month as well.
Formerly of Pieta Hotspurs, DeGiorgio has played with Malta at U-17’s level for a total of three appearances, including two qualifiers against Austria and Bulgaria in 2018.
