Ħamrun Spartans ended their commitments at their pre-season camp in Austria in winning fashion when they beat Austrian Third Division side BMD Vorwarts Steyr 2-1 on Friday.
The Spartans have been in Austria since last Sunday as coach Mark Buttigieg stepped up his team’s preparations for the new season.
Ħamrun produced an encouraging performance in the first half and managed to build a two-goal lead courtesy of goals from Darren Borg and Jorge Ailton Soares, aka Dodo.
The Austrians tried to fight back but could only managed to pull a goal back after the break as the Malta champions held on for the win.
This was Ħamrun Spartans’ second match in Austria. On Tuesday they were held to a 1-1 draw by Austrian side Union Gurten 1-1.
The Spartans contingent are expected to arrive back in Malta on Saturday.
