Malta national team to compete at Eurohockey Championship III

The Malta men’s hockey national team will be travelling to Lousada, Portugal, take part in the Eurohockey Championship III between August 1 and 7.

The past year and a half have been difficult for sports at all levels and the European Hockey Federation (EHF) has been struggling to keep a number of competitions going.

The EuroHockey Championship IV was this year scheduled to be held at the Malta Hockey Complex at Corradino.

 The Hockey Association Malta (HAM) had its preparations well in hand for the event that, unfortunately, had to be cancelled since half the teams withdrew their participation. 

Given that the EuroHockey Championship III had an empty slot, the EHF agreed to offer this place to Malta being the next highest-ranked team.

Once participation was confirmed, the National team group continued with its preparations strictly abiding with the COVID protocol laid down by SportMalta.

On the its part the HAM set into motion its own logistical preparations, which given the stringent measures required by the EHF and Portuguese Authorities, not an easy task.

Malta will play in Pool A against Belarus and Turkey. Pool B will see the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, and Lithuania involved.

The top teams in the pool will then play in a final group of matches.

    Very well done H.A.M. for deciding to go ahead with your participation in these important tournaments. It is so good to learn that the Maltese National Hockey Team will be participating in Portugal. Good luck to all the players hoping that your hard work and preparation for this tournament will come up to your and all the Administrator’s satisfaction.
