Floriana FC confirm signing of Malta young striker Mattia Veselji

Floriana FC have announced that they reached an agreement to sign young forward Mattia Veselji.

On Thursday, the Times of Malta had reported that the Greens had set their sights on Veselji who is seen as one of the most talented forwards in Maltese football and has been a regular member of the national team youth selections over the years.

In a statement, the Greens announced that they had agreed terms with the forward.

“One of the brightest prospects of Maltese football, Mattia Veselji, has agreed terms to become a Floriana Football Club player with immediate effect,” Floriana said in a statement.

“The 19-year-old attacker has considered our Club as the best choice where to start a new chapter in his shining career.

“An exceptionally-talented forward and a regular member of the National Team youth selections, Veselji came through the youth academy and Senior Squad of St.Andrews FC, and last featured for Serbian side OFK Beograd, leaving his mark in an impressive manner.

“Now back in Malta, the Maltese attacker has decided to join the many talents which our Club recently invested in and seeks to prove his worth as one of the top elements in Floriana’s strike force.”

Veselji spent the last two seasons playing in Serbia where he managed to leave his mark with the youth team of OFK Belgrade.

The Serbian club has been impressed with the progress made by Veselji and promoted him to their senior team this summer where he featured in a friendly with Romanian side Steaua Bucharest.

The acquisition of Veselji is only the latest signing of a young player from Floriana FC who on Wednesday announced that they had signed Neil Micallef from Birkirkara.

Micallef’s move was part of the deal that saw Argentine defender Enzo Ruiz join the Stripes on a two-year contract.
