The 28th meeting of the season, which was held on Sunday afternoon at the Marsa Racetrack, heralded the start of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira competition for class Premier trotters.
Six heats were organised on a long distance of 2,640m, from which 24 trotters made it to the semi-final stage.
In the first heat, Antoine Du Bourg (Redent Magro) sealed its fourth win of the season after leading all the way during the long distance.
Baron De Majuag (Alessandro Grech) took the lead with a lap to go in the second heat. Grech’s trotter gained its second win in a row and its fourth of the season easily by five lengths from Norwegian newcomer Catherine’s Chevy (Rodney Gatt).
There was a keen and interesting duel between the early leader Aster Des Caillons (Charles Degiorgio) and Juvels Boy (Caillin Borg) in the final straight of the third heat. It was the former which took its second win of the season.
In the fourth heat it was Swedish newcomer Pablo Andover (Daniel Hili) which registered its first win in Malta after upping its pace during the last 600 metres.
Noel Baldacchino took its second win of the day with French debutante Chaud Devant in the fifth heat. This French trotter sprinted well in the final straight, Similar was the sixth and last heat with Viking’s Topline (Eugenio Bondin) obtaining its first win in Malta after its third attempt.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Friday. The first race should start at 7pm.
