Luxol preserve top status with comprehensive win over UOM

Luxol St Andrews started the second phase of the futsal season on a high after registering a comprehensive win against University of Malta.

Even Valletta had a positive outing against Mellieħa to stay three points away from their rivals in the standings.

After another round of matches, the second phase of the championship began with five teams playing in the Enemed Futsal Premier League while the remaining sides are competing in the Enemed Futsal Challenger League.

Luxol St Andrews obtained an eye-catching 12-1 win over University of Malta.

Gabriel Dobre’s boys were in dominant mood with their player Marwan Telisi hitting the target three times. Gia Nikvashvili and Maicon da Silva helped themselves to a brace while Melvin Borg, Andy Mangion, Mark Zammit and Stefan Vella were also on the mark.

Stefan Camilleri was the students’ only scorer on the day.

Valletta emulated their rivals as they saw off Mellieħa 7-0.

The Citizens dominated the proceedings with Luke Gatt and Andre Ciancio finding the back of the net twice while Jovica Milijic, Karl Sciortino and Brayan Silva Rivera also had the satisfaction to score a goal apiece.

Meanwhile Naxxar Lions are the new leaders of the Enemed Futsal Challenger League as they had a convincing 7-2 win over Qormi.

The Lions wanted to start this second phase of the league on a positive note. They had Antoine Barbara notching a brace while Josef Azzopardi, Matthew Buttigieg, Sean Parnis, Matthew Camilleri and an own goal added to their tally.

Qormi scored their consolation goals through Kenneth Schembri and Bertram Azzopardi.

St George’s are one point away from Naxxar in the second place after edging Żurrieq 2-1.

It was a balanced affair between two teams who gave their all to secure all spoils. In the end it was the Cottonera side who got the victory.

Faisal Alnakouoo and Karl Luke Schembri were on the mark for St George’s while Boycho Marev was Żurrieq’s only scorer.

Siġġiewi returned to winning ways after an 11-0 victory over Marsaskala.

This defeat kept the seasouthsiders in the bottom spot of the standings.

Siġġiewi had Wallace Oliveira scoring a poker and Andrea Rufa notching a hat-trick.

On the other hand, Shataizan Zarb and Ryan Muscat hit the target twice.

Enemed Futsal Challenger League: Naxxar 18, St George’s 15, Żurrieq 7, Siġġiewi 9 Qormi 6, Marsaskala 1.
