Driven by Ludvic Ghigo, Dream won Sunday’s most important event at the Marsa Racetrack.
This was a race open for class Premier trotters on a short distance of 2,140m and which formed part of the 11th meeting of the season consisting of nine races all for trotters.
This card also included three semi-final races from the Assikura Championship for class Bronze trotters and four heats from the Executive Security Championship for class Silver trotters. These were also held on a short distance.
Twelve trotters lined up for the class Premier race.
It was Viking’s Topline (Eugenio Bondin) the fastest trotter after the official start of the race. This Swedish horse opened a small lead from Caid De Bengale (Ivan Stivala) and Crusoe d’Anama (Charles Camilleri).
However, with 500m to go Bondin’s trotter started to lose its pace and was reeled in by a number of trotters.
Eventually it was Dream (Ludvic Ghigo) which took the lead midway through the final straight and registered its second consecutive win and in Malta from Baron De Majuag (Alessandro Grech) and Crusoe d’Anama. Capitaine France (Michael Axisa) finished in fourth place.
From the three class Bronze semi-finals, 12 horses made it to the final stage.
In the first semi-final, Crack De Bas (Cliferty Calleja) registered its first win in Malta after leading all the way.
This French trotter triumphed by a length from Fils Du Soir (Charles Camilleri) and Onas My (Mario Fenech). Doora (Cherise Farrugia) also made it to the finals after ending in fourth place.
Galerno Valou (Clint Vassallo) sealed its first win of the year in the second class Bronze semifinal. This French trotter increased its speed during the last 200 metres and won by a length from Estak Gentil (Rodney Gatt), Faon De La Vitard (Jesmar Gafa’) and Optimus M.M. (Marco Debono).
The early leader of the third class Bronze semi-final, Rose Lloyd (Dwayne Farrugia), started to slow down around 300m from the finishing line.
Eventually this Swedish trotter was overtaken by Flash Du Rabutin (Charles Camilleri) which gained its second consecutive win easily by three lengths from Cupidon De Bassard (Sam Cassar) and Felin Du Dropt (Clint Vassallo). Festin d’Avenir (Dylan Baldacchino) was the last trotters to qualify for the final race.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Sunday, starting at 1.30pm.
