Assikura Insurance Brokers Limited kept up with the tradition of the past years by sponsoring the first two finals of the season open to Gold and Bronze category horses.
This collaboration between the Malta Racing Club and Assikura goes back to 2007 when they first started sponsoring condition races moving on to these championships in 2010.
Unfortunately, last year due to the suspension of sport activities in the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, the championships were interrupted after the first stage and we had to wait two months for their continuation.
This year though the championship got back on track with the Gold Category horses participating in six heats on February 13 and two semi-finals last Sunday.
These were highly-competitive races and now we know the 12 finalists who will be challenging each other on Sunday, March 13.
On Sunday the three semi finals for the Bronze category horses will be held. A record number of horses, 105, took part in nine heats. The final for the Bronze category will be raced on Saturday March 19.
The draws for the Gold category were done during a press conference in the presence of the owners of the 12 horses that made it to the final.
The press conference was addressed by Edwin Borg, the vice-chairman of the Malta Racing Club and EquestriMalta, and the Managing Director of Assikura Insurance Brokers, Andrew Grech.
Also present for the news conference was EquestriMalta CEO Max Zammit and, Dr Matthew Brincat, the CEO of Marsa Racetrack Ltd.
