The 2023 season resumed on Sunday with the 42nd meeting of the season which consisted of nine races all for trotters on a short distance of 2140m.
The two most important races were those open for class Premier trotters and which were won by Escoublac and Hunter Montana.
Twelve trotters lined up for the first class Premier race.
It was Cupidon Du Corbon (Rodney Gatt), the fastest horse after the official start of the race and during the first metres managed to open a small lead from Escoublac (Charlton Muscat) and Damour Jiel (Kerstin Galea).
Gatt’s trotter led all the way and past the finishing post first from Damour Jiel.
However both trotters were eventually disqualified by the racing stewards and the win was awarded to Escoublac.
French newcomer Democrate (Ludvic Ghigo) ended second from Dexter Des Baux (Ivan Stivala) and Caballo D’Aure (Frederick Mallia). For Escoublac this was its fourth win of the season.
Hunter Montana (Tony Demanuele) upped its pace 200m from the end of the second class Premier race.
This Dutch trotter managed to seal its second win of the year easily by a length and a half from Doudou De Bouere (Jean Claude Pace). Embleme Castelets (Kirsten Axisa) and Ami De Clerlande (Tony Mallia) followed home in that order.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Sunday. The first race should start at 2pm.
